Welcome to Shoalhaven Rugby 5 of 12

5. Rugby Park

Shoalhaven Rugby played at various grounds in the early days, from Bomaderry High school grounds in 1968, with a rental of $4 per annum before moving to Lyrebird Park until until 1982.

"We need a ground of our own"

was the constant cry from John Phelps one of the clubs founding members. His commitment became the clubs ambition. In 1997 a committee comprising John Ryan, Steve Sweeney, Ralph Cook, John Miller, Greg Horton and Bill Ellison was formed to pursue a home ground for the club.
In late 1978 Shoalhaven Council offered the club 25 acres of land in South Nowra off a then unsealed Flinders road and on 11th September 1978 the council passed a resolution to support the SRFC application for the development of playing fields and club house.
Greg Watson, the then mayor of Shoalhaven council offered to supply water and electricity free of charge to the complex. The dream had become a reality.
